Whether its cigarettes, beer, or bankrupt oil companies, I’ve always enjoyed the nostalgia of vintage signs. Drawn to them like a moth to fire, it seemed I always wanted to shell out the cash for these expensive tins. Like many others, I wasn’t always willing to dive into my wallet to spend hundreds of dollars to bring the good ole days to my walls. So meet the alternative, plywood signs. Like the off brand medicine at the local drug store, it may be a little cheaper, but in reality it pretty much has the same effect. I have been hoarding reclaimed lumber from my past furniture projects for years, and to be honest, the dust on it has been collecting dust. For a change of pace, I decided to turn it into art.
What began as a side job to fulfill my artistic side, has sprung into a full on second business. To be quite honest, I enjoy making these signs way more than building furniture. Less stress and possibly more gratifying. With the economy in a slump, more and more buyers seem to have a mighty death grip on their wallets. Seems not everyone has the extra two or three grand to throw down on a custom made table. This is my way to produce a well made quality piece at an affordable price. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got that same death grip on my wallet as well.
